On March 12, 2012 the Saskatoon Police Service was involved in two separate vehicle pursuits after officers attempted to stop suspicious vehicles.
The first pursuit occurred at approximately 01:46 a.m. after police attempted to stop a dark colored Dodge truck as it traveled on Attridge Drive. Officers became suspicious of the truck after being made aware of vehicle thefts over a 48 hour period in the East end of the city. The vehicle fled from officers and reached speeds in excess of 100 km/hr before officers decided to terminate the pursuit because of the potential risks to other patrons of the road. The suspect truck was last seen heading westbound on 33rd street from 2nd Avenue.
The second pursuit occurred at approximately 02:56 a.m. when officers attempted to stop small passenger vehicle on the west side of the city. The pursuit continued on Circle Drive and was terminated when the suspects escape path was blocked by a passing train. The suspect attempted to turn his vehicle around was responsible for striking patrol vehicles which were position directly behind him. A 25 year old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police. He is scheduled to make an appearance in provincial court on Monday March 12, 2012.
