Subject: Disturbance At Two High Schools - 3 In Custody - 100 Block Of Bowlt Crescent

A 16 year old male is in custody following a disturbance which occurred at two high schools located in the 100 block of Bowlt Crescent this afternoon.

On Thursday, April 5, 2012, at approximately 2:04 p.m., police received a 911 emergency call indicating that 6 males, who were not students, entered the front doors of a high school located in the 100 block of Bowlt Crescent. The group was immediately confronted by school administration and told to leave. They exited out the front door and proceeded to walk toward a neighbouring high school. No weapons were produced.

As the group walked away they split into two groups of three. Three youth removed objects from their person and pointed these objects at the staff member in an aggressive manner. A second staff member witnessing this believed the objects to be firearms and called police. As a precaution a lock down was initiated and the neighbouring school was contacted. All 6 males entered the neighbouring high school but immediately exited and continued to leave the area. They walked over a pedestrian overpass leading to Lloyd Crescent. Officers in the area located three of the males and took them into custody. The objects initially believed to be firearms were confirmed to be cameras. However, a 16 year old male was found to be in possession of a concealed machete. This weapon was not brandished during the incident.

The 16 year old male has been arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon. The other two with him (ages 15-16 yrs) were returned to their parents or guardians. The remaining 3 youth involved were not located.

The incident remains under investigation.
