The Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit has taken to the sky as a full time patrol support service after successful evaluation projects in the summer of 2005 and 2006. Last year, as in 2005, the ASU demonstrated its ability to quickly respond to “in-progress” calls such as break and enters, armed robberies and other street related crimes. The ASU has been involved in several criminal pursuits and has proved invaluable in greatly reducing the risk to the public and our frontline patrol members.
During the 3 month evaluation in 2006, the ASU responded to hundreds of calls for service, was involved in over 150 arrests and was directly responsible for 53 arrests.
The Air Support Unit's priority is supporting patrol members. ASU also provides support to other sections and units within the Saskatoon Police Service as well as other police agencies around the Saskatoon area.
